THE TOUR

The Megawatt Tour of Europe started with the question: “How can we raise awareness and well-needed support for the mental health of people working in the data center industry?”

At data center conferences, similar issues are discussed: sustainability, power, innovations, technology and resources amongst other thing. Partners and colleagues in the data center industry came together to start the Megawatt Tour of Europe. Our group includes data center builders, suppliers and Data Center Associations. We want to bring the subject of Mental Health in Construction to the forefront, a major component that effects our industries most precious resource - our People

At the same time, we will raise funds for Mates in Mind, a charity that raises awareness and addresses the stigma of poor mental health. This is particularly relevant for the data center industry. A 2017 Randstad survey found 34 percent of construction workers experienced a mental health condition in the last twelve months, and that 73 percent felt that their employers do not recognise the early signs of mental health problems. Just in the UK, suicide rates for construction workers are more than 3 times higher than the national average.

The 1,600km tour will be both a physical and mental challenge. For many of the riders in the tour, cycling is more than just for fitness — it's an important part of their overall wellbeing.

And for fun we want to to see how much power we can generate if, instead of flying to Monaco, we cycle.
